Installing USG IMS Server

The IMS Server application is installed using a self-extracting zip file and a batch script. Follow these steps to install the IMS Server. On Windows 7 or Server 2008 and greater, execute all .exe and .bat files as Administrator.

  1. Start the installation by double-clicking IMSServer.exe. The installer will extract files and launch setup.bat. Press any key to continue.

  2. The installer will ask if you want IMS Server to start automatically when the computer starts or manually started by the user. The IMS Server runs as a service allowing the application to start and handle client request without needing a user to log in and start the server.  Enter Y for auto start and N for manual start.

  3.  Press any key to complete the install.

Creating ODBC (DSN) For IMS Server to MP2

The IMS Server uses its own ODBC data source and cannot use the same data source as mp2. Please do not skip this step.

If you already have a data source named IMS, you can edit it to point to the new SQL server

  1. Open ODBC Data Source Administrator
    1. 32-bit OS: Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Data Sources (ODBC)
    2. 64-bit OS: Start - run and enter C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
  2. Select the System DSN tab. Then click Add... button
  3. Select the SQL Server driver and click Finish
  4. Enter IMS in the name field (Description is optional)

  5. Enter the mp2 server name an instance in the server field and select Next. Example: (local)\mp2 

    Your SQL Server instance name maybe different or you may be using the default instance, in which case you'll just need to enter (local)

  6. Select With SQL Server authentication radio button and enter a Login ID and Password of a SQL user that has access to the MP2 database. Click Next.
  7. Select Change the default database to and select the MP2 database from the list. Click Next.
  8. Select Change the language of SQL Server system messages to and select English. Click Finish.
  9. Test the data source, if successful, click OK and exit the tool.

Configuring IMS Server

IMS Server consists of two executable files, the Service and Integration Manager (aka configuration utility). 

To open the IMS Server Integration Manager, double-click the IMS Server Integration manager icon on the toolbar.

Or run C:\Program Files\IMS Sever\mNOWServiceManager.exe
 

Important: The IMS Server Integration manager must be run as Administrator. Failure to do this will result in unsaved configurations.

  1. If the manager is already running, right-click and select Exit.
  2. Browse to C:\Program Files\IMS Server\ right click on mNOWServiceManager.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'

Configure Connection Services

  1. Select Connection Services tab - ODBC Client SQL tab
  2. Enter the mp2 SQL username and password (this is the same user and password you entered when creating the ODBC data source).
  3. Click Test.
  4. Click the ODBC Real Time tab and enter the same mp2 SQL username and password

If the test fails, verify the ODBC data source configuration and SQL user ID and password (both user id and password are case-sensitive)

           

Configuring Queuing Services

  1. Select Queuing Services tab.
     
  2. Select the first SQL_Ora target and click Edit.
  3. Enter the same data source information as above and click OK
  4. Repeat steps for the second SQL_Ora target.
  5. The configuration is now complete. Click OK in the upper left to save the configuration and restart the service.
     

Installing USG IMS Client on your Mobile Device

If you have MX7 or MX8 devices running Windows CE, please skip this and follow these instructions: IMS setup on Windows CE

 

In order to copy the files from the desktop to the mobile device, you’ll have to have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on your PC.

Windows Mobile device Center:

Once installed, connect the device's cradle to your PC and place the device in the cradle. Windows Mobile Device Center should start and bring you to a connected screen. If it does not, try rebooting your PC. After the reboot is complete, start Windows Mobile Device Center (Start - Programs) and cradle your device.

Only one device can be connected to a PC at a time.

  1. Open Windows Explorer and got to Client\ IMS Client subdirectory under IMS Server (C:\Program Files\IMS Server). Choose whichever version is desired and copy all .cab files contained in the folder. In most cases, use the WM_PPC version. This version will run on Windows Mobile and Pocket PC devices.

  2. Select “Pocket PC” and in the left panel, right click and choose “Paste”. This will copy the file from the desktop to the mobile device.

    Depending on the device and OS, the device may be named differently. However, it will show up as a drive or device in "My Computer"

     

     

  3. After the file has completed copying, open the devices File Explorer from the Programs menu on the Mobile Device, and go to the mobile devices root directory, and click to run all .cab files that you copied. This will start the installation process.

  4. Once the installation is completed, you have successfully installed IMS Server Client on the mobile device.

Setting Up the USG IMS Client

After installing the USG IMS Client application some setup is required. Please follow the steps below to complete the setup process for the USG IMS Client

The easiest and quickest way to configure the IMS Client on your mobile device is to obtain another device that has already been set up for the IMS client and copy the settings over to the new device.

 

  1. Start the IMS Client on the device, select Start - IMSClient

     The first time the application is started you may be prompted for an authorization key. Please email the authorization key to support@bluedotsolutions.com for your authorization code. Include your Name, contact information, and Company Name.  Once you receive this, you will be able to complete your configuration of IMS Client.
  2. The Login dialog is displayed. Log in as the administrator with a User ID of admin and a password of 12345
  3. Select Utilities - Data Connection and enter the IP Address of the server was IMS Server is installed. This is normally the mp2 server.


  4. Select the test button.

    If the test fails, check the following.

    1. Make sure you have a network connection. This can be provided by a wireless network or Windows Mobile Device Center via a cradle connected to your PC. 
    2. Double check the IP address of the server.
    3. Make sure Windows Firewall is either disabled on the server or a allow rule has been added for port 3973

  5. Tap OK to save the setting.
  6. On the Utilities menu, tap Setup - Database Version and select the type of database you're using. In most cases, you should select SQL Server 2012 Tap OK
  7. If MP2 is Single Site, Warehouse, location and/or Purchasing Center. Tap the corresponding button to enter the default ID. For example, if MP2 is configured for a single site. Select Site - Single Site and enter the Site ID.
  8. Tap Done to complete the setup and return to the main menu.
  9. Tap Upload. This will pull IMS user and security information to the device.
  10. Tap Utilities - Change Login and log in as an IMS user.

    The setup is now complete, repeat these steps for any extra devices that you may have.
